Spencer Butte Trail

Length: 1.7 miles round trip
Elevation Gain: 750 feet
Difficulty: Moderate

This hike will take you through the forest before a stair stepping climb to a breath taking view. The hike will start from Spencer Butte Park Trailhead. At the top of the stairs you will take the main trial to the right. The trail to the left is a shorter but much steeper. You will hike through the forest for .6 miles to a trial junction. Continue straight through the junction. You now have .5 miles to the summit. You will come out of the trees at the butte where you will climb stone stairs to the 2,058 foot summit.

The 360 view of Eugene and the Cascade Mountains is stunning. This was a short but challenging hike as the climb at the top is steep and rocky. Our favorite part of this hike was having a picnic on the summit. We took in the views and tried to defend our lunches from pesky squirrels. I would recommend doing this hike in the morning as it got very hot while climbing the butte with no tree coverage. This hike definitely comes with crowds-understandable this is a very popular trail.
