McDowell Creek Falls Hike
Length: 2 miles round trip
Elevation Gain: 230 feet Difficulty: Easy For the McDowell Creek Hike, park at the lower parking lot that is marked by a brown McDowell Creek Falls Park sign. There is 3 miles of trail throughout the park. There is a map of the trails at the trailhead. For this hike, we decided on the most direct route to all the waterfalls, as we were not sure how long our littles would last. We headed off on the trail across the bridge. At the fork in the trail, on the right, are stairs that lead to a viewing deck. We headed left across the bridge under Royal Terrace Falls. Then staying right along the trail we crossed another bridge and continued to stay right. The trail left leads to a picnic area and parking lot. Eventually the trail came out at McDowell Creek Road. We crossed the road to continue on the trail that leads to Majestic Falls. This hike changes throughout the year. In the picture on the right, you can see the difference the time of year makes on Royal Terrace Falls. During the summer, the falls is only a trickle. We love this hike because you get to experience so much within a short distance. The many bridges and staircases along the falls keep things exciting. The forest is partially pretty with all the moss cover, and you can hear McDowell Creek throughout the entire hike. Details Day Use Parking: No Fee.
