Clear Lake Trail

Length: 4.6 mile loop
Elevation Gain: 429 feet
Difficulty: Easy

This is an easy hike around a pristine cascade lake. From the Clear Lake Resort trailhead you start counter clockwise around the lake. You will pass over the headwaters of McKenzie River, walk through lava rocks, see the springs that feed the river and a beautiful view of the Three Sisters. The hike will seem a lot longer than expected as the lake gets very narrow by the boat house but swerves back out to continue around the remainder of the lake. Be aware there are mountain bikers on the back side of the river as it is part of the McKenzie River Trail.

This lake is breathtaking and has a lot of variety in scenery around the lake. I loved the unique lava rocks although you would not want to hike through there on a hot afternoon as there is no shade and would get very hot. The hike is beautiful but my favorite thing at Clear Lake was kayaking. You can rent kayaks or rowboats from the boat house or $5 launch fee for your own. For more details on rental costs click here.

There is a lot to do along the McKenzie River. For other great hikes in the area check out Tamolitch Pool (Blue Pool) and Sahalie & Koosah Falls.
