Cascade Head Hike
Length: 4.2 mile round trip
Elevation Gain: 1200 feet Difficulty: Moderate At the beginning, the trail crosses Three Rocks Road and heads through the woods along Savage Road. You will come out of the woods and cross the road. Walk along the shoulder down the hill to the old trailhead on the right side of the road. You will immediately start a steep climb up the stairs. The climb will ease as you cross bridges and hike through the forest. There will be a sign about the Nature Conservancy. After the sign you will emerge from the forest and enter the headland meadow. The views are immediately stunning. You will make your way through a cluster of trees and then hike the open slopes. There is a view down a cliff to the Pacific Ocean. The trail switchbacks until you reach the upper viewpoint. To date, this is my favorite hike. I love the variety this hike offers and the challenging elevation gain that is well worth the view. This hike offers the best view of the Oregon Coast. In early spring, after a lot of rain, the trail is very muddy and will take some extra time to sludge through. Details Day Use Parking: No Fee.
