CAMPOUT BIRTHDAY PARTY.
Carter came up with the idea for a campout birthday party. He wanted to set up a tent in the backyard with balloons inside. We would roast hot dogs and eat goldfish, and blueberries. I love how excited he gets to plan his birthday parties!

Food
The most important thing on a camp out is food. As requested we had hot dogs, gold fish and blueberries. We roasted hot dogs over an open fire. I didn't think about the madness of eight 4 year olds roasting hot dogs. Don quickly took over as the designated hot dog roaster. For fun I attached some gummy worms to dowels with string as Carter also loves fishing. These were a huge hit!

Outdoor Adventure Hunt
This was an easy and inexpensive activity. I got the idea for the brown bag scavenger hunt here. The free printable is cute. I altered it to fit the age group and what is in our backyard. Beforehand I collected toilet paper rolls and covered them with plain white paper to make binoculars because what's a hunt without binoculars? The kids loved coloring their own. Once the binoculars were colored, we hot glued the two rolls together and attached string. With their brown bag and binoculars in hand the hunt was on!

The Cake
After a Pinterest search Carter decided on a S'mores Ice Cream Cake. It's to die for! If you haven't had a S'mores Ice Cream Cake go make one. The step-by-step video tutorial makes it fool proof, which is a huge relief as birthday cakes cause me the most stress. Bonus: It's a big cake. We had almost half a cake left after the party, which I had every last slice of. Make it and you will totally understand. Cake Topper I made the cake topper from sticks we collected on a walk. I cut the sticks to make the topper 4 inches and hot glued all of the sticks together. I wrapped the twin around the four and glued in place. Then to make it a cake topper- I glued two dowel rods on the back but use what you have around -a few bbq skewers or a popsicle stick can do the job. |

The chalkboard was in the front so people came directly to the backyard.
I had plain packing paper so I tried my hand at sketching little scenes on the front of the presents. I do not draw but I'm good at copying. I typed "camping doodles" into pinterest for inspiration.

Carter Man's Thoughts On His Birthday
"I like going on adventures with all of my friends. We got to roast hot dogs and find bugs. Dad helped me find bugs like roly polies and ants. The cake was marshmallow kind. I really liked it but I had to break through it with my fork. My favorite gift was my camping shirt and my football from Rylan (his cousin). It was so nice of him and he got me that thing that you put on your head and on your wrists that makes you not get sweaty (a headband and wristbands)."
